CENTRAL BOARD OF SECONDARY EDUCATION
(An Autonomous Organisation under the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development Govt. of India)
“SHIKSHA KENDRA”, 2, COMMUNITY CENTRE, PREET VIHAR,  DELHI – 110092

See the letter of COBOSE about selection pattern of IIT

Dated: 14th September, 2012
Dear Sir/Madam,
Subject: Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) - 2013 for Admission to Undergraduate Engineering Programmes in IITs, NITs and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions, etc.
This is in continuation of our detailed deliberations held in the meeting organized by the COBSE on 28th
June, 2012 and further discussion held with the Councils of IITs, NITs and IIITs. After extended deliberations, it has been decided to hold a Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) -  2013 for Admission to Undergraduate Engineering Programmes in IITs, NITs and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions, etc. in two parts  - JEE(Main) and JEE(Advanced).
The  members of the IITs, NITs and IIITs council were of the opinion that the importance of the schooling system needs  to be revived in larger public interest by giving due weightage to the performance of students in Class XII Board examinations and at the same time maintain the credibility and integrity of admissions to higher institutes of technical education.
The revised scheme of examination is as follow:
ÿ Name of the examination shall be Joint Entrance Examination(JEE)
ÿ JEE shall be held in two parts — JEE (Main) and JEE (Advanced).
ÿ Now, AIEEE will be known as JEE(Main) and IIT-JEE as JEE(Advanced)
ÿ All candidates shall take JEE (Main). JEE (Main) shall be gateway for JEE (Advanced)
ÿ Only the top 150,000 candidates (including all categories as per reservation policy) based on
performance in JEE (Main), will qualify to appear in the JEE (Advanced) examination. Admission to IITs
will be based only on category wise All India Rank in JEE(Advanced), subject to condition that such candidates are in the top 20 percentile of successful candidates in Class XII examination conducted by
their Boards in applicable categories.
ÿ For admission to National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs) like IIIts etc. and  participating Institutions; the merit/rank list shall be prepared based on 40 per cent  weightage to school board marks and 60 per cent weightage to JEE(Main).
The weightage to school Board marks shall be considered only after normalisation of the marks awarded by different Board.
ÿ In case any State opts to admit students in the engineering colleges affiliated to State Universities where
States require separate merit list to be provided based on the relative weightages adopted by the States,
then the merit list shall be prepared with such relative weightages as may be indicated by States.
ÿ Those students who have appeared in the Class XII Board examinations in 2012 and wish to improve
upon their performances can appear in all subjects as per Scheme of Studies again for the Board
examinations in 2013.  All Boards would make appropriate arrangements to facilitate this through a
special dispensation.

COBSE supports the reforms in IIT JEE

COBSE supports the reforms in IIT JEE

The three day meeting of Council of Boards of School Education in India (COBSE) convened in capital today to discuss National curriculum Framework 2005 in collaboration with NCERT, examined the issue of IIT examination policy where it has been decided that only those students who get 60% or more marks at the class 12 will be eligible for competing in the entrance test of IIT.

COBSE felt that the decision will help and strengthen class 12th examination conducted by various school Boards in the country. This will give greater importance and focus to the studies at senior secondary level. Thus, the serious students with appropriate attitude and aptitude will be eligible to compete for IIT examinations. It will also dissuade many from entering into coaching institutions. At present it is not the best talent but the best coached student which achieve success in the JEE. It is resolved that this policy be implemented by the IITs in order to strengthen the studies at +2 level. The meeting is being attended by the Chairmen and the Secretaries of various school boards of the country.

School Boards to announce percentile of top 20 students in a week

New Delhi: School Boards across the country today decided to make available the percentile of top 20 candidates within seven days to help students get a clear picture of the marks required to be eligible for IIT entrance.

Reaching a compromise formula, the IIT council had yesterday announced that admission to IITs from 2013 would be based only on rank achieved in the advance test and selected candidates would be in the top 20 percentile of successful ones of their boards.

The representatives of the school Boards assembled here today for the Council of Boards of School Education (COBSE) meet, an apex body of all the boards, councils of secondary, senior education in the country.

"It was decided that the equivalent percentage of marks for top 20 percentile students would be available (within 7 to 10 days) to students so that they are able to know the percentage of marks that will make them eligible for IIT Entrance," said a statement after the meeting.

The meeting was called to discuss operational issues arising out of the decision by the IIT Council.

In all, 20 of 29 boards? chairpersons and representatives were present during which they "wholeheartedly supported the idea of giving weightage to the Boards Examinations? Results and were of the view that this will definitely strengthen the school education," the statement added.

To ensure the new format functions smoothly, the boards decided to declare their results before June 10 and will complete the revaluation work within June 30 of the year.

The members at COBSE, who supported the new common entrance format, suggested that the joint Admission Boards (JAB) of IITs may be co-opted as member of COBSE.

It was also decided that detailed guidelines will be issued by COBSE to the Boards informing them about details of new schemes and various responsibilities expected of them.

National Informatics Centre was requested to prepare a common format based on current format of results by the different Boards so that data could be transferred by the Boards to the professional examination organizing bodies.

The COBSE meeting also agreed to provide secured and category-wise data of OBC/SC/ST and general candidates for the ensuring efficiency in the new entrance exam format.

Discussing about other issues, the meeting reiterated the earlier decision to allow improvement in all five subjects to a student who has taken the board examination this year.

"This will help the students who appeared this year\'s Board Examination but want to improve their performance in order to be able to compete well in 2013 examinations," the statement said.

Scaling System in Selection Process

Scaling System in Selection Process

UP Board 65% = CBSE 78%

And what you want to say - Common Examination / Multistage Examination in Selection Process

On this Blog, Many Acad. supporters said that - Their academic marks is the result of many years study.
However in counter reply - Candidates said that if they are in good in study then should score good marks in common aptitude examination.

Common Examination supporters view is -
However classification of posts - is of Primary Level
And subject specialist  /toppers in examination have many other opportunities.
TET examination concerns with basic education and related abilities.

While Academic supporters view is - In many states academic marks are used for selection process.
And 100% TET marks in selection process is inappropriate.

Day by day new selection procedure is heard, However authentic source /news not seen. May be process is still under consideration.
If somebody of better info then please share it.

IIT Scaling System of Different Boards

IIT Scaling System of Different Boards

How IIT adopts its procedure of scaling system : -

In CBSE, on an average, the percentage of marks scored by the last student in the top 20 percentile in Class XII is around 78%. “Our analysis shows that the last student in this bracket in the Uttar Pradesh Board scored 65% in Class XII and in Tamil Nadu Board he scored 78%. We will soon do a data analysis of Class XII results of all 42 state boards in the country and put them on the CBSE website so students have an idea what percentage they must target to enter IITs,” CBSE chief Vineet Joshi said.

"The meeting was successful and a unanimous agreement to proceed with admission scheme as recommended by Joint Admission Board (JAB) was taken. Kanpur faculty members and other senates gave full support to this proposal. There is no compromise. It is just a single proposal with all steps clearly spelt out. All doubts have been sorted," said IIT-Kanpur Board chief M Anandkrishnan.

Reaction :
The Super 30 founder Anand Kumar said the top 20 percentile criterion would “go against the poor, who don’t have the opportunity to study in elite schools”.
“There is a huge gulf between the standard of top public schools and those run by the government. For the poor, who study in rural schools lacking even basic facilities and quality teachers, it will be a big deterrent.
“So far, they had a level-playing field, where their hard work and performance mattered…. But the 20 percentile could be killing for genuine students,” Kumar said.

IIT JEE Result Declared - IIT

IIT JEE Result Declared - IIT
