MAHARASHTRA TET : 3.89 lakh aspirants take Teachers Eligibility Test in 1,363 centres across Maharashtra

Of the 4.14 lakh teacher aspirants registered with the Maharashtra State Examination Council (MSCE) for the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET), about 3.89 lakh took the exam on Sunday. The test was conducted at 1,363 centres across the state and went off smoothly, barring very few instances of malpractice. The number of candidates registered this year was significantly lower than last year. Over 6 lakh people had registered for the exam in 2013.
Going by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) guidelines, the state has defined professional and educational qualifications a must for the TET. Of the two papers, part I is for aspirants who want to teach students between grades I and V, while part II pertains to higher classes. Candidates interested teaching students of all standards are required to give both papers.
MSCE chairman D V Sahasrabuddhe said, "The number of candidates registered last was more than 6 lakh which has come down to 4 lakh this year. However, the reason for the drop has nothing to do with the surplus issue that is being currently discussed."
About 5 per cent of the number of candidates had cleared the test last year. This year's results will be out in two to three months.
