Telangana New districts raise hopes on teacher recruitment

Hyderabad: Formation of new districts in Telangana has raised new hopes among the unemployed youngsters as recruitment for government teacher posts may be taken up soon.
The government, it may be mentioned here, had assured that recruitment to teacher posts in the government schools would be taken up after rationalisation of government schools and formation of new districts.
Now that it has successfully accomplished delimitation of districts and since the rationalisation of schools has also been more or less completed, govt has now cleared hurdles for recruitment of teachers.
Around five lakh unemployed graduates, who hold B Ed and D Ed degrees, are eagerly awaiting the recruitment to teacher posts for the last seven years. As no recruitment has been done since 2009, the eligible candidates have been waiting for the notification in this regard.
This year, the government has decided to do away with district selection committee (DSC) system for recruitment of teachers in government schools. The responsibility of recruiting teachers has been entrusted to Telangana State Public Service Commission.
According to reports, there are about 20,250 vacancies in the ZPHS, municipal and other government schools in the State. They include 800 headmaster, 3,000 school assistant, 310 physical education teachers, 900 language pundits, 9,500 secondary grade teacher and 2,900 aided school teacher posts lying vacant.
Students Federation of India, Telangana unit secretary B Sambasiva said the government has been postponing recruitment for the past two years on one or the other pretext. He said they have recently conducted Chalo Hyderabad protest demanding the recruitment.
He informed that nearly five lakh youngsters were patiently waiting for the announcement of recruitment process. Government also announced to set up about 300 residential schools recently for SCs, STs, Minorities and BCs.
This year, about 100 schools have become functional and by next academic year about 200 would come into existence. They need about 10,000 teachers and this would take the number of available vacant teacher posts to 30,000.
