“Set right anomalies in implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission”
The Joint Action Committee of Tamil Nadu Teachers’ Organisation (JACTTO) urged the State government to pay allowances to them on a par with their counterparts in Central government schools.
Pressing their 15-point charter of demands, the members took out a rally from Women’s Christian College junction to the Collectorate here on Sunday. Addressing the rally, P. Theagarajan, coordinator, JACTTO, said their main demand was to set right anomalies in the implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission, withdrawal of Contributory Pension Scheme and merger of 50 per cent of Dearness Allowance.
Their other demands were regularisation of teachers appointed on consolidated pay, appointment of separate official for distribution of 14 educational apparatuses to students, enactment of a separate Service Protection Act akin to the one enacted for doctors and six per cent salary increase for teachers working in government-aided schools without promotion for 30 years.
The rally was flagged off by V.L. Bavin, committee member, JACTTO. The rally went through Tower junction, Veppamudu, SLB School, Duthie School junction before culminating at the Collectorate.

Government schoolteachers took out a massive rally and staged a demonstration here on Sunday, pressing for their 15-point charter of demands, which included pay revision.
The teachers demanded salary on a par with their counterparts in Central government schools and disbursement of all allowances announced by the Centre to them too.
Appointment of teachers on seniority basis and withdrawal of new pension scheme were their other demands.
More than 1,000 teachers took part in the rally, which started at Dindigul panchayat union office and ended at National Highways office on Sub-Collector’s Office Road, after passing through AMC Road and Corporation Road.
Ramanathapuram
Members of Joint Action Council of Tamil Nadu Teachers’ Organisation (JACTTO) took out a rally here on Sunday, pressing for demands, which included abolition of Teacher Eligibility Test (TET).
Led by V. Ramamurthy, district secretary of Tamil Nadu Elementary School Teachers’ Federation, and S. Senthilkumar, State secretary of Tamil Nadu Graduate Teachers’ Association, teachers of all schools in the district, a large number of whom were women, participated in the rally, taken out from the new bus stand to Aranmanai.
The agitators also demanded the government to revise the pay scale of secondary grade teachers, replace the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) with old pension scheme and implement the 4 (3) Rules and merge 50 per cent of the Dearness Allowance in the salary.
Mr. Ramamurthy said the government should immediately hold talks with the high-level committee, comprising general secretaries of various teachers’ associations and redress the grievances.
JACTTO would announce the next course of action after consulting the committee if the government failed to concede the demands.
