Permanent tattoos debar recruitment to the Indian Army
With the prevalence of wearing permanent body tattoos by many candidates reporting for recruitment in the army, the following will be implemented with immediate effect:
'Any candidate with a small engraving/tattoo of name or religious symbol on the inner face of the arms or hands be declared "med unfit". Further 'Candidates will be directed to undergo Hepatitis B and C test and HIV test' (on submitting a written consent for the same and after the mandatory pretest counseling).
A Defence press release, which was circulated to all Head Quarter Recruiting Zones and DCs for wide publicity said, henceforth "candidates having permanent tattoos on any other part of the body be debarred from recruitment in the army".
The release said 'in future the above policy will be clearly indicated in all advertisements and publicity campaigns for recruitment into the army'.
