Mother of all exams: 30 lakh appear in TET
See news of Bihar TET - BHTET :PATNA: The state education department on Tuesday held peacefully a massive teachers' eligibility test (TET) at about 1380 centers across the state with nearly three million candidates appearing in it.
It is the first step to select eligible candidates for teachers for primary and middle schools. The test, being described as the biggest-ever exercise by the NDA government, will provide jobs to a large number of people, including women, in government schools.
The test would continue on Wednesday.
According to Bihar School Examination Board secretary Lalan Jha, about 29.64 lakh candidates are appearing in the two-day TET across the state, out of which 2.56 lakh candidates are taking examination in and around Patna at 99 centers. Barring a few incidents of boycott in Muzaffarpur and Aurangabad districts, the test was held peacefully at almost all centers, he said.
On Tuesday, over 16 lakh candidates appeared in two sittings, while on Wednesday another 13 lakh candidates will appear in the test.
To maintain coordination, the education department has set up control rooms in Patna, so that the government could act swiftly in case of any difficulty during the test. These control rooms are directly controlled by senior officials of the education department, Jha said .
Expressing satisfaction over the first phase of TET, Jha said about 95% candidates turned up for the test braving inclement weather.
"The candidates' response was positive at each center. At four centers located at Muzaffarpur and Daudnagar in Aurangabad district, a few disgruntled candidates created nuisance and boycotted the test. However, the test was subsequently held peacefully at these centers under heavy security arrangements," he said .
Arti, who took the examination at one of the centers in Patna, said that she has done well in the examination, which was based on objective-type questions. Divya and Ragini, who also appeared at the test, said, "Kudos to the state government for holding such an examination peacefully on a large scale across the state. The government must ensure transparency in the results too."
At Khagaul, Danapur and Phulwarisharif, the test was held under tight police security. Some candidates turned up at the examination centers with their old parents and family members, who waited patiently outside the exam center in the freezing cold.
At BS College, Danapur centre, the examination was delayed for about half an hour in the second sitting due to late delivery of question cum answer books.
