KOLHAPUR: Candidates appearing for the first-ever Teachers' Eligibility Test (TET) on Sunday termed it "a tough experience", with many stating that they had not expected the difficulty level to be this strong for the first test.
"The questions and the pattern were supposed to be on a par with the secondary and higher-secondary syllabi, but could easily match competitive examination question standards. I regularly appear for competitive examinations and still it was a tough exam for me on Sunday," said Vishal Nikam, a BA BEd candidate and a TET aspirant.
TET aspirant Ragini Patil said she had expected a better performance from herself. "But it was a difficult test for me. The 150-minute time for 150 questions was not enough and it was an average examination experience for me," Patil said.
TET, applicable to those aspiring to join as teachers, demands strict educational qualification standards, with a 60% cut-off score for open category students and 55% for reserved category students. Candidates clearing the examination will obtain the TET certificate, valid for seven years.
Jayashri Gurav, a MA BEd candidate and TET aspirant, said that while there was no problem with the question paper, the unavailability of reference material may have proved to be costly for many aspirants. Many were unaware of the nature of the questions, which is why the Sunday test proved to be tough. "Next year, the test will not be so tough," said aspirant Kiran Patil.
Maharashtra State Council of Examination (MSCE) officials told TOI that the examination was conducted smoothly, with a 90-95% appearance from registered candidates throughout the state. There were no complaints received during the day.
"Overall, 96.41% candidates were present for the examination. No complaint whatsoever was registered during the examination. The department had appointed a staff of 1,319 officers and other staff members for the exam in 63 examination centres in the city," said Smita Gaud, primary education officer, Kolhapur zilla parishad.A state government representative said that the test would help filter the best candidates and that public and private schools will be allowed to recruit only those teachers who have cleared the TET. There are a total of 3,38,658 sanctioned posts of teachers in the state, of which 32,746 are now vacant.

* कपिलदेव (अकेडमिक सेनापति) महोदय एक पंडित जी के पास पहुंचे और कथा सुनने की इच्छा व्यक्त की और साथ ही अपना मंतव्य भी बताया की सुप्रीम कोर्ट से फैसला अपने पक्ष में आने की उम्मीद में वो कथा सुनना चाह रहे हैं। पंडित जी ने कथा सुनाने का रेट 5000 रूपए बताया। कपिल देव जी ने कहा की उनके पास तो बस 50 रूपए ही हैं (क्यूंकि बाकी चंदे के पैसों को वो मोबाइल, और अन्य प्रसाधनों में खर्च कर चुके हैं)। पंडित जी ने इतने कम रूपए में कथा सुनाने से इंकार कर दिया। कपिलदेव जी ने बहुत अनुनय विनय की और कहा की-" आप पूरी कथा मत सुनाइये सिर्फ 50 रूपए वाली सुना दीजिये"। पंडित जी मान गए। पंडित जी ने उन्हें एक पुराने पीपल के वृक्ष के नीचे हाथ जोड़कर और आँख बंद करके बैठने को कहा और जल्दी जल्दी मन्त्र पढ़ने लगे (वास्तव में पंडित जी उन महाशय से जल्द से जल्द पीछा छुड़ाना चाहते थे क्यूंकि बेचारे पुण्यात्मा थे और टेट के प्रबल समर्थक भी थे)।
जब कपिलदेव जी आँखें बंद किये हाथ जोड़कर बैठे थे तभी उस पेड़ की जड़ से एक बिच्छू निकला और कपिलदेव महोदय को काट खाया। पहले तो कपिलदेव महोदय बर्दाश्त करते रहे किन्तु जैसे जैसे जहर का असर बढ़ता गया वैसे वैसे पीड़ा असहनीय होती गयी। जब अंत में दर्द बर्दाश्त नहीं हुआ तब कपिल महोदय चिल्लाकर बोले-" हे पंडित जी, ये तो अच्छा हुआ कि मैंने सिर्फ 50 रूपए की कथा सुनी, जब 50 रूपए की कथा सुनने में इतना दर्द होता है तो 5000 रूपए में क्या होता होगा ? बाप रे बाप आप 25 रूपए की ही कथा सुनाइए मैं अब ज्यादा नहीं सुन पाऊंगा"।
